Synopsis via Goodreads:
Courtney and Josh are in love and excited to finally compete as skating partners. When they take the ice for their first competition, they want to show everyone, especially Josh's family, they are the perfect pair.
But ice is slippery, and one misstep puts all their dreams in jeopardy. Now they must show each other both their love and their partnership are strong enough to survive.
When
did you start writing?
I
used to write a lot when I was a kid, but I stopped for many years and didn’t
start again until about six years ago. I had an idea for a story, and one of my
friends insisted I write it so she could read it. It was supposed to be just a
fun thing to share with friends. I never imagined it would lead to a writing
career!
Do
you ever get writer's block and what do you do to get over it?
I do get writer’s block, usually in the
plotting phase. I find it helps to talk over ideas with friends, no matter how
silly some of the ideas may be. Just throw everything out there to get the
creative juices flowing.
Do
you have any works in progress?
I’m
currently working on the third and final book in the Ice series, TAKING THE
ICE. It will wrap up Courtney and Josh’s story on and off the ice!
What
are your hobbies?
Writing
is my biggest hobby! I have a full-time job as a tax accountant, so I spend a
lot of my free time writing. I’m also a huge figure skating fan, so I like to
travel to competitions and shows with friends.
How
did you choose the character names for Losing the Ice?
Since
the Ice series is a spin-off from my Edge series, some of the characters were
already established. I needed a last name for the main character Courtney,
though, and I was plotting the novel while I was at a work conference at the
Ritz-Carlton hotel. So Courtney’s last name became Carlton! Her love interest,
Josh, was originally going to be named Braden, but when I started writing the
story he felt more like a Josh to me.
Who
is your favourite character in Losing the Ice?
Josh
is my favorite character. He’s the dream boyfriend – sweet, smart, gorgeous,
and both musically and athletically talented. I love how much he adores
Courtney.
How
did you get the idea for Losing the Ice?
After
I finished writing the first book in the series, CROSSING THE ICE, I knew there
was more to Courtney and Josh’s story. I wanted to show what happened in their
first season as a team, but I had some trouble coming up with a central
conflict. A good friend talked through a bunch of ideas with me (again at the
Ritz-Carlton!), and we came up with a rough outline for the novella.
What
was your favourite part of writing Losing the Ice?
I
loved writing the scenes when Courtney and Josh are on the ice together. Josh
has dreamed of skating with Courtney for years, so there are a lot of emotions
when they finally get to compete together.
What
are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading another sports romance –
Game.Set.Match by Jennifer Iacopelli.
What
is your favourite book?
To
Kill a Mockingbird.
What
is your favourite film?
I
have so many! A few are Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Breakfast Club, The
Notebook.
What
is your favourite TV show?
I have quite a few of those, too! My favorite
of all time is Friday Night Lights, but I currently enjoy Chicago Fire, Big
Bang Theory, So You Think You Can Dance, and my ultimate guilty pleasure –
Catfish.
Quick-fire
questions:
Chocolate
or ice cream? Chocolate.
Paperback
or ebook? I’ve become partial to ebooks because I can read in the dark and not
have to get up to turn the light off before bed!
Dogs
or cats? Cats
Go
out or stay in? Stay in
Summer
or winter? Winter because there’s skating to watch!
