Love Charms and Other Catastrophes by Kimberly Karalius
(Grimbaud #2)
Published by: Swoon Reads
Publication date: May 17th 2016
Genres: Fantasy, Romance, Young Adult

Synopsis:

Aspiring love charm maker Hijiri Kitamura was excited to come back to Grimbaud for her sophomore year-until she learns about the upcoming charm making competition. Grimbaud has just started to recover from the tyranny of Zita’s love fortunes and it would be too easy for the winning charm maker to take Zita’s place. The only solution is for Hijiri, with the support of her friends and fellow rebels, to win the contest herself.

Unfortunately, that’s easier said than done, especially when Love itself has decided to meddle in Hijiri’s life. Concerned that it’s favorite charm maker has given up on finding a boyfriend of her own, Love takes matters into its own hands and delivers the perfect boyfriend to her in a giftwrapped box…literally.

Get ready to be charmed by this magical, quirky sequel to Love Fortunes and Other Disasters by Kimberly Karalius.

A Day in the Life of Kimberly Karalius

Saturday

I wake up to my phone alarm at 7:00am, currently set to the moody, Maleficent version of “Once Upon a Dream.” The irony is what gets me out of bed and ready for another day. My brain’s already plotting as I take a shower, dress, and eats breakfast. My miniature poodle, Misty, usually shows up with her tail wagging and begging for a scratch. I’ve mastered the art of eating toast with one hand and bending over in my chair to pet my dog. Then I check social media and emails to see if anything exciting happened overnight (usually, something did!).

If I’m lucky and my weekend is fairly open, I’ll spend the morning wandering around local stores – not only to shop, but with the added bonus of finding inspiration. Sometimes I’ll find something intriguing, like a teapot with a seahorse’s head for a spout or a tie dye shirt depicting a snowman glowing with unknown power – and think to myself, oh yes, this could be a story. I’ll take a picture of it and put it in my notes for future writing projects. Talking to people while I’m out can also be inspiring, but I’m not in the habit of jotting down snatches of dialogue.

After having lunch, I’ll usually sit down, open my laptop, and start writing. Unless I’m under deadline, I write in the little library in the front of the house, sitting cross-legged on the couch while Misty tries to get a good spot on my lap. Once I put my earbuds in and load up a playlist, I’m all set to go! Writing can and has been interrupted by very long phone calls from my brother, texts from dear friends, Misty almost shoving the laptop off of me for more room, and boring but necessary things like laundry, vacuuming,, and making dinner.

I turn off my laptop for the day, eat dinner, and exercise – which is super important for any writer since we spend so much time sitting as we create our stories. Then, since I spend most of my weeknights and weekends writing thanks to my day job, I relax. This usually involves watching a movie or reading a good book. Finally, like the little old lady I am in my late twenties, I end up falling asleep too early.
