Blurb from Goodreads:
Before
she can become the greatest empress in history, fifteen-year-old Sophie will
have to survive her social-climbing mother’s quest to put her on the throne of
Russia—at any cost.
Imperial Court holds dangers like nothing Sophie has ever faced before. In the heart of St. Petersburg, surviving means navigating the political, romantic, and religious demands of the bitter Empress Elizabeth and her handsome, but sadistic nephew, Peter. Determined to save her impoverished family—and herself—Sophie vows to do whatever is necessary to thrive in her new surroundings. But an attempt on her life and an unexpected attraction threatens to derail her plans.
Alone in a new and dangerous world, learning who to trust and who to charm may mean the difference between becoming queen and being sent home in shame to marry her lecherous uncle. With traitors and murderers lurking around every corner, her very life hangs in the balance. Betrothed to one man but falling in love with another, Sophie will need to decide how much she’s willing to sacrifice in order to become the empress she is destined to be.
In a battle for the soul of a nation, will love or destiny reign supreme?

Fifteen-year-old
Sophie is travelling from Prussia to Russia with one goal - to marry the heir
to the throne and become Queen. Sophie wants nothing more than to return home
but as her mother keeps telling her, Sophie must win the heart of Peter, the
heir to the throne, in order to save her family from losing their lands and
title.
Can
Sophie survive life at court? Will she win Peter's heart and secure the throne?
This
historical novel is about the origins of Catherine the Great.
I felt
sorry for Sophie and I liked how determined she was. She did, however, annoy me
at times, especially when she kept saying how handsome all the Russian men
were. It was sad that she didn't have a good relationship with her mother who
was using Sophie for her own gain.
I quite
liked the Empress even though she wasn't that nice. I hated Peter who was cruel
and wished that Sophie could have ended up marrying whom she'd wanted.
I liked
the historical setting but I would have liked there to be more scenes outside
the palace.
The
writing style and the pace were good but I did find the plot predictable and
nothing that happened shocked me.
Overall
this was a unique read but I found it predictable.
