If I Knew Then What I Know Now About Writing
I usually try to avoid giving writing advice. Part of that is because I'm still pretty new to the game and don't have much to say that hasn't already been said elsewhere (and better), but mostly it's because the process is so very personal and subjective, and there's no one "right" way to write—what works for me isn't necessarily going to be what works for anybody else. But I can say with certainty that one of my biggest writing regrets has been rushing a manuscript out into the world before it was ready.
I don't say this to cast any sort of aspersion on self-publishing, which is a viable option and can be (and has been!) done exceptionally well. For me, though, self-publishing was the last, desperate answer to numerous agent rejections—obviously they just didn't understand the story I was trying to tell!—and thus a way to avoid learning and growing as a writer. Looking back, I wish I had read the signs, shelved the manuscript, and put the effort into a new and better project, even if it meant a few more years before I could see my name in print.

She received her BA in History from the University of West Georgia, and is now pursuing her MA. She writes stories that incorporate her love of history, languages, and world travel.
