Synopsis:
In 2146: Seventeen-year-old Bridger is one of a small number of people born with the ability to travel to the past. While on a routine school time trip, he sees the last person he expected—his dead father. The strangest part is that, according to the Department of Temporal Affairs, his father was never assigned to be in that time. Bridger’s even more stunned when he learns that his by-the-book father was there to break the most important rule of time travel—to prevent someone’s murder.
And that someone is named Alora.
When did you start writing?
I wrote a lot when I was in middle and high school, then stopped for many years while I attended college, began teaching elementary school, and started my own family. But I never stopped dreaming about writing. After many years of wanting to become an author, I realized it wasn’t going to happen just by wanting it, so starting in 2009, I began to make time to write every day.
What makes you want to write?
I love being able to créate the kinds of stories that I like to read.
Who is your favourite character in The Edge of Forever?
This is so hard because I love so many of them, but if I could pick a character that I relate to the most, then that would be Grace. I totally get her need to protect Alora.
How did you get the idea for The Edge of Forever?
I had shelved my first book in early 2011 and was trying to figure out what to write next. One day in June, when I was out driving, I heard the song IF I DIE YOUNG by The Band Perry on the radio. For some reason, I was also thinking of an old time travel movie from the early 1980’s titled SOMEWHERE IN TIME. And I just started thinking and it’s hard to explain, but I wondered what it would be like for a boy to travel back in time. And I realized that he wanted to try to find a way to save the life of a girl who had died too young.
What are your hobbies?
Well, of course, I love reading and writing, but I also enjoy running and watching movies at the theater.
What is your favourite film?
Oh, I have so many! One that I’ve watched quite a few times lately is GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY. Rocket and Groot are the best!
What is your favourite TV show?
I adore several TV shows, but the one that gives me the most anxiety (meaning I’m totally invested in the characters) is THE WALKING DEAD.
