Title: Heir of Fire (Throne of Glass, #3)

Blurb from Goodreads:

Lost and broken, Celaena Sardothien’s only thought is to avenge the savage death of her dearest friend: as the King of Adarlan’s Assassin, she is bound to serve this tyrant, but he will pay for what he did. Any hope Celaena has of destroying the king lies in answers to be found in Wendlyn. Sacrificing his future, Chaol, the Captain of the King’s Guard, has sent Celaena there to protect her, but her darkest demons lay in that same place. If she can overcome them, she will be Adarlan’s biggest threat – and his own toughest enemy.
While Celaena learns of her true destiny, and the eyes of Erilea are on Wendlyn, a brutal and beastly force is preparing to take to the skies. Will Celaena find the strength not only to win her own battles, but to fight a war that could pit her loyalties to her own people against those she has grown to love?

My Review:

*I received a copy of this book via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thanks to Bloomsbury Publishing Plc (UK&ANZ) and NetGalley*

2/5 stars

Celaena has been send to Wendlyn by the King of Adarlan to do his bidding. Celeana is overwhelmed by grief from her friend's death. Will she go through with the King's orders? Will Dorian be able to control his powers and hide them from his father?

I really wanted to enjoy this. I really, really did.

I don't know why but I've struggled with this series since book one. While I did enjoy the first two books overall I didn't like this one.
I couldn't connect with the storyline or the characters at all. I found this really boring and skim read most of the book, only reading the chapters about Manon properly.
Celeana really annoyed me throughout the book - she was whiny and selfish.

I don't think she has lived up to the title of Adarlan's Assassin at all except maybe at the end of Crown of Midnight.
I'm sorry to say that I didn't really care what happened to Dorian or Chaol while reading the book. I was annoyed that Dorian had to have a new love interest as soon as Celeana left the palace but the twist at the end was good.
It was interesting to learn more about Wendlyn and Celaena's heritage.

Overall this was an okay read bit it didn't hold my attention.

Crowned by Evil.
Bound by Duty.
Divided by Love.

Celaena Sardothien, royal assassin, is the King of Adarlan's deadliest weapon. She must win her freedom through his enemies' blood - but she cannot bear to kill for the crown. And every death Celaena fakes, every lie she tells, put those she loves at risk.

Torn between her two protectors - a captain and a prince - and battling a dark force far greater than the king, Celaena must decide what she will fight for: her liberty, her heart or the fate of a kingdom...

3.5/5 stars

After my disappointment with Throne of Glass I was tentatively hoping that Crown of Midnight would be better.

For the first three quarters I was feeling like this:

But then the pace and plot suddenly exploded and my rating for this book went from a barely 3 to the 4 side of 3.5. I couldn't put it down and while the 'surprises' weren't as impactful as the author probably planned I enjoyed this overall.

Celaena was a lot more kick-ass in this one (finally) and I found the romance quite predictable but it didn't annoy me as much as it did in the first book.

I'm still disappointed that I'm not enjoying the series as much as I'd hoped or as much as everyone else seems to but I'm planning to continue with the series.

Okay so I expected to love this. I thought while reading it I would be all

However while I did enjoy it I didn't love it. I kinda hate that I didn't because I really wanted to.

Seeing as Celaena was supposed to be this badass assassin I didn't really understand why she was so scared of the king. She didn't even explain why she was scared of him.

Then there was the love triangle.

Going into this I didn't know that there was a love triangle (surprising I know) and I have to say that I was really disappointed when I realised that there was one. It just didn't seem necessary and it annoyed me.

Overall while I did enjoy it I was slightly disappointed.
