Review - All the Missing Girls by Megan Miranda

Title: All the Missing Girls
Author: Megan Miranda
Pages: 384
Publisher: Atlantic Books
Release date: 2nd February 2017

Blurb from Goodreads:

It's been ten years since Nicolette Farrell left her rural hometown after her best friend, Corinne, disappeared without trace. Then a letter from her father arrives - 'I need to talk to you. That girl. I saw that girl.' Has her father's dementia worsened, or has he really seen Corinne? Returning home, Nicolette must finally face what happened on that terrible night all those years ago.

Then, another young woman goes missing, almost to the day of the anniversary of when Corinne vanished. And like ten years ago, the whole town is a suspect.

Told backwards - Day 15 to Day 1 - Nicolette works to unravel the truth, revealing shocking secrets about her friends, her family, and what really happened to Corinne.

Ten years ago, Nicolette 'Nic' Farrell's best friend, Corinne, disappeared. Then Nic did a disappearing act of her own, leaving her small home town behind for the city and university.
Now Nic receives a letter from her father who has dementia, claiming that he saw Corinne the night she vanished.
Nic returns home and a few days later another girl goes missing.
Can the police find Annaleise?
What happened to Corinne all those years ago?

All the Missing Girls is told backwards from Annaleise's disappearance from Day 15 to Day 1. I thought this was a refreshing and unique way to tell a story. There is also a mixture of the past and the present, both of which I enjoyed reading but probably more so the sections about the past.
Nic was an okay protagonist but I didn't have any strong feelings about her or any of the other characters, except maybe Corinne who seemed horrible.
The plot was interesting and I didn't guess what had happened to Corinne or what would come of Annaleise.
I liked the writing style and found it easy to follow.

Overall this was an enjoyable, unique read.

Review - Soulprint by Megan Miranda

Title: Soulprint
Author: Megan Miranda
Pages: 368
Publisher: Bloomsbury Childrens
Release date: 1st February 2014

Blurb from Goodreads:

Alina Chase has spent her entire life in confinement. With the science of soul-printing now a reality, she is 'protected' for her own safety – and the safety of others – because her soul has done terrible things ... or so she's told. When Alina finally breaks out of prison, helped by a group of people with unclear motives, she begins to uncover clues left by her past life that only she can decipher. And she may not be as innocent as she once believed. Can Alina change her future, or is she fated to repeat her past and face the consequences?

3/5 stars

Soulprinting means that spinal fluid can be used to see who people were in their prior reincarnation and as a result Alina Chase has spent her life trapped on an island because of who she was in a previous life – a criminal called June who hacked into the soulprint database.
At seventeen, Alina has dreamed of escaping for years and one day it finally happens – a group of people break her out. Can Alina trust her rescuers? Will she ever truly be free? Was June really the villain people saw her as?

Soulprinting is a very intriguing idea and you could tell that the author had thought about it in great detail. I liked Alina and felt sorry for her – she didn’t know her parents and all she wanted was to live her life in peace but the shadow of June was constantly hanging over her. There was some romance in this but it didn’t feel that real to me. The plot was okay but I did see something coming early on. It did feel like the middle dragged a bit but the writing style was easy to read and engaging.

Overall this was an interesting read that I enjoyed.

Review - Vengeance (Fracture, #2) by Megan Miranda

Title: Vengeance (Fracture, #2)
Author: Megan Miranda
Pages: 353
Publisher: Bloomsbury Childrens
Release date: 13th February 2014

Blurb from Goodreads:

When Decker drags his best friend Delaney’s lifeless body out of the frozen lake, he makes a deal: Anyone but her. Everyone but her. The lake releases her. It takes another...

All their friends blame Delaney for Carson’s death. But Decker knows the truth: Delaney is drawn to those who are dying, and she would have tried to help Carson.

Or so Decker believes until a body lies in front of him in a pool of water on his kitchen floor. Until he sees in Delaney’s eyes that she knew this would happen too – and she said nothing. Until he realises it isn’t the lake that is looking for revenge – Delaney is part of someone else’s plan.

Anyone but her. Everyone but her.

That was the deal Decker made when he pulled Delaney out of Falcon Lake and now the lake is striking back...

Vengeance is told from Decker's point of view and started off well.

Towards the middle it seemed to drag and not much happened.

I didn't find the ending all the surprising but the story read well and held my interest.

Overall a good read.
