After the death of Kahl Ninu, the city of Ninurta is in turmoil with rebels unhappy at the choice of new Kahl. Kai is worried that her brother, Reev, is involved with them.

Avan is now an Infinite and has no memories of his life before which hurts Kai every time she sees him. She tries to make him see what it is to be human.

Kai's ability to stop time has disappeared.

Then a messenger comes from another surviving city, Lanathrill, asking for aid.

Is Lanathrill hiding something from them?

Will Kai get her powers back?

Firstly I want to say how gorgeous the cover is. I mean just look at it! Beautiful!

For me The Infinite was disappointing. The plot didn't hold my attention at all and I often found myself skim reading. It was only around 70% when things started getting interesting. There was betrayal and some things that I didn't see coming but some that I did (they seemed so obvious I was surprised Kai didn't see them earlier).  

Kai was more confident in this book and I felt sorry for her about Avan.

There was a love triangle in The Infinite but it wasn't a focal point and wasn't over the top. I actually think it was done quite well.

I did like learning a bit more about The Infinite and that the world was expanded into another city.

Overall I unfortunately found The Infinite disappointing.

Kai lives in a world that was ravaged by an explosion made by the combination of magic and science. Her home is the Labyrinth - a maze of old containers stacked on top if each other.

Kai has a secret. She was found on a riverbank when she was eight by Reev, who took Kai in and raised her like a sister, and has no memory of her life before. Kai also has a special ability - she can manipulate time.

Then Reev goes missing. Determined to do whatever it takes to get her 'brother' back, Kai enlists the help of her only friend Avan.

Will Kai find Reev?

What she learns about her past could change everything.

Gates of Thread and Stone started out well, hooking my attention. The world that Lee has created is an intriguing one and I enjoyed learning more about it. I did, however, find myself losing interest after a while which didn't change until the end of the book when there were some twists.

Kai was a likeable protagonist. She was determined, loyal and asked questions.

The romance was quite sweet and it wasn't over the top.

Overall this was a mixed read but I enjoyed it for the most part.

We ambled along the fence, peering inside at the abandoned farming equipment lying haphazard in the dirt. Behind the farmhouse, I could make out what had once been distinct rows of crops. Now, they were shriveled and half-hidden beneath the untamed weeds.
I exchanged an uneasy look with Mason as we circled the buildings. Yara had gone alarmingly pale.
