Hidden Deep (Book 1 of the Hidden Trilogy) by Amy Patrick
Release Date: 03/23/15
Oxford South Press
319 pages

Summary from Goodreads:

Give in to the Glamour…

Sixteen-year-old Ryann Carroll has just run into the guy who saved her life ten years ago. You might think she'd be happy to see him again. Not exactly. She's a bit underdressed (as in skinnydipping) and he's not supposed to exist.

After her father's affair, all Ryann wants is to escape the family implosion fallout and find a little peace. She also wouldn't mind a first date that didn't suck, but she's determined not to end up like
her mom: vulnerable, betrayed, destroyed. Ryann's recently moved back to her childhood home in rural Mississippi, the same place where ten years earlier she became lost in the woods overnight and nearly died.

She's still irresistibly drawn to those woods. There sheencounters the boy who kept her from freezing to death that long ago winter night and was nowhere to be seen when rescuers arrived.
He's still mysterious, but now all grown-up and gorgeous, too.And the more she's with him, the greater the threat he poses to Ryann's strict policy-- never want someone more than he wants you.

Seventeen-year-old Lad knows the law of his people all too well: Don't get careless and Don't get caught. It's allowed his race to live undetected in this world for thousands of years, mentioned only in flawed and fading folklore…

Lad's never been able to forget about Ryann since that night ten years ago. When he sees her again, his fascination re-ignites and becomes a growing desire that tempts him to break all the rules. He's not even supposed to talk to a human, much less fall in love with one.

And the timing is atrocious. The Assemblage is coming, the rift between the Light and Dark is widening, and mysterious celebrity fan pods are becoming moreand more widespread and influential. Lad may have to trade his own chance at happiness to keep the humans, especially Ryann, blissfully unaware and safe.

Excerpt:

I’d heard coyotes rarely attacked people, and in fact, woul d cower in the presence of a human. Someone forgot to tell these two.
I saw no sign of cowering. The small part of my brainstill capable of it searched my memory for the appropriate action. Was I supposed to play dead or make loud noises? I couldn’t remember which, and I really didn’t want to make the wrong choice.
What I wanted was to step out of the way, or more accurately, runas far and as fast as possible out of the way, and let them have at the dead deer. I took an experimental half-step backward with one foot. The coyotes snarled louder and stepped forward several paces.
A few more steps in my direction by the pair, anotherstep in retreat by me, and my feet stumbled on the doe’s legs. My back scraped a thick tree trunk. There was no escape for me now.
My pulse rocketing through my veins, I scanned the ground immediately around me for a stick or anything I could use to at least make killing me more inconvenient. The beasts broke their stalking pattern and charged toward me. With a scream, I squeezed my eyes shut tight.
There was a sudden and deafening guttural cry close to my ear, and my heart flew into my throat as something grabbed me hard around the waist. I was hauled upward. The crushing tension around my middle now pressed up painfully into my rib cage. It wasn’t the excruciating sensation I’d been bracing myself for—teeth tearing into my skin—but it was no less frightening than a coyote attack. Wind and small branches whipped my face as I was pulled higher, higher.
The motion stopped with an abrupt thump, and I sat hard against a solid but pliable surface. I began to shiver. Somehow I was still alive, not in pain, and sixty feet off the ground. I turned my head, looking for the explanation.
And saw his face.
“Lad.” I blinked several times as my brain tried to processit.
Lad tightened his hold around my waist with one arm, and with the other hand stroked my hair. “You’re safe now. It’s okay. They can’t get you up here.”
They. I peered down at the feeding frenzy far below. The coy otes ripped at the deer carcass, snarling and snapping at each other in their greed for the dead flesh. The sound was nauseating. I couldn’t help picturing my own body in place of the doe’s.
Awareness of my surroundings began to return as the near-death panic subsided. Lad was holding me securely on his lap, my back to his chest, and my thighs supported by his own steely legs. The scent of him was all around me, too, fresh like the woods and a little salty. I inhaled deeply. It was the fragrance of safety.
Lad was really here, and I was wrapped in his arms, cradled by his body. I twisted again to see him. Impossibly-green eyes glinted with what looked like worry.
“Are you injured?” he asked.
I wasn’t hurt, but I was breathless. Probably in shock. Also, hearing his voice again, so much more beautiful than I’d remembered, and seeing his flawless face so close after days of searching and finding nothing was disorienting. I started considering the hallucination theory again.
 “Are you real?”

Book Blitz - Still Me (20Something, #3) by Amy Patrick

Still Me by Amy Patrick
(20Something #3)
Publication date: October 10th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis:

Fall in love like a 20 Something….
23 year old Kenley Moran is going through a mid-life crisis… WAY early. Pushed since childhood by a nightmare stage-mom to use her looks to “land a rich man”, she’s reeling from a broken engagement and regretting the day she gave up her career in TV news for a guy.
Now Kenley’s determined to change her life, shunning makeup and fashion and fighting her way back into the highly competitive career she loves, off-camera this time. When she lands a producing job at Worldwide News Network in Atlanta, she plans to keep her head down, work hard, and prove she’s not just another pretty face. And vows NO ONE is EVER going to make her compromise herself again.
WNN anchor Larson Overstreet has it all—old money, good looks, a prestigious job, and more women than he can count throwing themselves at him. Problem is… none of it is real. He’s known his whole life that people are only interested in him for his fortune and his famous family name, in that order. Except for Kenley. The shy news producer isn’t interested in him at all.
Working closely with the anchor of her new show, Kenley’s dismayed to feel an instant spark. Larson’s everything she doesn’t want. He’s too good looking, too charming, and worst of all, too rich. She’s not looking for another big money honey. In fact, she’d prefer a nice little guy from the mailroom, maybe a guy who lives at home like she’s been forced to do.
But when they must travel together for a special report, Kenley realizes Larson’s not the spoiled pretty rich boy she pegged him as, and she’s not as immune to him as she’s pretended to be.
Now, even at the network level, what happens behind the scenes is the real story.

Excerpt:

After what seemed like hours of torture, we finally came to an exit ramp featuring signs advertising food, gas, and lodging.
“Oh, thank God. I don’t think I could have walked any further really,” I admitted.
“You and me both. I can’t feel my face anymore. Is it still there?”
As I confirmed Larson’s face was indeed intact, the snow turned into sleet and freezing rain. “Great,” I muttered, beginning to speed walk to the top of the ramp. I would’ve run if I hadn’t been certain it would lead to leakage. Several gas stations, fast food restaurants, and even a hotel all stood at the top—in complete darkness.
“Shit. There’s no power—there must be some trees down on the lines near here,” he said.
The first frissons of panic struck me. I was already wetter than I wanted to be. “What are we going to do?”
Larson looked over at me, reading my face. “Don’t worry. We’ll find a bathroom… if you still need to… do you?”
“Of course! What? You thought I peed my pants?”
He laughed at my expression of horror. “I wouldn’t think less of you if you had—”
I slapped his arm, the panic downshifting to simple worry. “No. I’m still hanging onto my dignity and my bladder control… by a thread. But I really, really need to find a place.”
“Okay, let’s try some doors. Maybe one of these places is open even without power.”
The first gas station we approached was locked up tight. The second one, too, though it wore an apologetic sign: “Sorry. No power. No gas. No public restrooms.”
“Great.” Now that I’d allowed myself to think about it again, it was getting harder and harder to hold it. My bladder felt like it was soccer-ball-sized at this point and the internal burn it
produced should’ve been enough to power each and every one of these buildings.
I’d begun to stare longingly at the dark alley behind the next building, determining just how much of my clothing I’d have to remove to keep from wetting it when Larson spoke up in an excited tone.
“Hey, I think I see some signs of life up there in that Burger Barn.”
I squinted through the wintry mix. “Really? Oh, you’re right. There are people in there, with cell phones or flashlights or something.”
We reached the door, which thankfully opened, and I went straight for the ladies room with barely a word to anyone. Behind me I heard Larson greeting the crowd of fellow highway refugees. I returned to him a few minutes later, almost euphoric with the comfort of an empty bladder and the heat retained in the restaurant.
“Burger?” Larson held out a paper-wrapped package. “They lost electricity, but the grill is gas—the manager said they’re cooking up everything in the freezer and giving it away.”
I grabbed the warm sandwich, holding it up to one numb cheek and then the other, sighing with pleasure. “I have never wanted a patty of mystery meat so much in my life.”
Larson gave me a sly grin and raised one brow. “And I never thought I’d be jealous of a Deluxe Barn-y Burger. Are you going to eat it or make out with it?”
I wrinkled my nose and pushed at his chest. “Shut up and eat your sandwich.”

Book Blitz - Channel 20Something by Amy Patrick

Channel 20Something by Amy Patrick
(20Something #1)
Publication date: August 12th 2014
Genres: Contemporary, New Adult, Romance

Synopsis:
From award-winning author and two-time GOLDEN HEART® finalist Amy Patrick comes a New Adult contemporary series about twenty-somethings entering the world of TV broadcasting, where what happens behind the scenes is the real news.

22-year-old Heidi Haynes is almost one year into her “real life”. She has her first reporting job, her first apartment, and a comfortable relationship with her college sweetheart. But for some reason she’s not as eager to talk about walking down the aisle as he is.

Heidi secretly longs for big cities, big-market breaking news, and real independence from her way-too-close-by helicopter parents. Problem is, the last time she left the security of home for new places and new people, things didn’t go so well. Disastrously, in fact, and she came running back to a local college and a “safe” boyfriend.

Aric Serrano is definitely not safe.

He’s six-feet-four-inches of missing-Hemsworth-brother-hotness and plans to stay in small-market-Southern-Hell just long enough to grab a cup of coffee and put together a kick-ass “escape tape”. He’ll serve his one-year contract, then he’s taking off for a higher rung on the TV sports ladder—alone—the way he likes it. Then he meets his new co-anchor.

Heidi would be so much more comfortable if she could simply ignore Aric. He’s just her type—the type she’s so careful to avoid these days. But that becomes impossible when she's forced to work closely with him on the weekend newscast. Now the attraction between them is growing even faster than the ratings, and what happens behind the scenes is the real news.

Excerpt:

The baby reached out for the stick mic, grabbing a handful of the foam windscreen covering it. Her mom scolded her and tried to pry her tiny hand away. “No, no, Cassie.”
“It’s okay. She can’t hurt it,” Aric reassured. He cupped the baby’s downy head, his large hand covering the entire back of her skull. As he cooed in her face, the baby gazed at him as if he was all that existed in the world. “May I please have this back, Cassie? Can I? Are you going to let me have my microphone back?”
She released her grip and gave him a wide gummy grin dotted with two tiny front teeth.
“Oh, thank you.” Aric stroked her plump cheek.
Oh my God. I’m envious of a baby. I shook my head to clear it. I really needed to get a hold of myself. Especially now that I knew Aric was involved with someone long-distance and he believed I was in a committed relationship. I had to work on my just-friends attitude and banish the improper thoughts that insisted on popping up every few minutes when I was with him.
We finished the interview, Aric thanked the family, and then we talked to a few students on camera, getting some good usable sound bites and some that would never make air. One group of frat guys we met had clearly started the party early. They were loud and happy and flirted with me outrageously.
“You’re beautiful,” slurred a lanky guy with a mop of platinum hair and a maroon blazer. He looked like a freshman and teetered over me like a skinny tree that might go down with the next strong breeze.
“She is, isn’t she?” Aric said in a clipped, impatient way. “Okay guys, just a couple of
questions—”
Another one of them, a stocky guy in a wrinkled button-down and crooked tie, ignored Aric completely and pushed things a step further. His whiskey-soaked breath surrounded me as he crowded my personal space. “You’re way cuter than you are on TV. They should make the news desk see-through. You have great legs.”
The guy lurched back from me as Aric stepped in and gave him the buddy-slap on the shoulder, employing more force than seemed necessary. “Okay, friend. Time to move along. This one’s spoken for.”
Aric’s voice sounded even deeper than usual. Though he’d obviously been referring to Hale, the protectiveness of his tone struck a shameful chord of pleasure in my midsection. I hadn’t actually been afraid—we were in a crowd of people in broad daylight—but there’s something almost magnetic about a guy whose instinct is to stand up for you.
In his state of drunken invincibility, the stocky kid bowed up, frowning in offense. Then he apparently realized how far up he had to crane his neck to see Aric’s intimidating expression. He shrank away and joined his friends stumbling into the stadium.
We picked up our gear and headed for the sidelines, flashing our media passes at the security guard on the way in.
“Thanks,” I said quietly.
Aric cut a glance in my direction and grinned. “Anytime. Reporter, photographer, bodyguard. Whatever you need.”
