by Jen McConnel
Publication Date:  March 8, 2016
Publisher:  Month9Books

After the disaster in Europe, Darlena’s starting to get desperate. She knows the only way to
defeat Hecate and the other crazy Red Gods is by banding together with other Witches, but is it any wonder she has a hard time trusting them?

With Izzy’s support, Darlena begins making fragile strides toward repairing the mess she made,
but she just can’t catch a break. As chaos runs rampant around her, Darlena begins to think that things would be better if she’d never become a Red Witch in the first place. But there’s no way to change the past…is there?

The final book in the Red Magic series brings Darlena face to face with impossible odds, and a
terrifying choice.

Inside the Mind of the Author

My brain is a bizarre place. You know those jokes about people with a million browser tabs open in their mind? That about sums it up. In addition to being a writer, I’m a teacher, a mom, and a wife (among many other labels), so I’m constantly juggling and shifting gears, switching hats between the different parts of myself. If that sounds chaotic, it certainly can be, but I wouldn’t want it any other way.

Over the years, I’ve gotten really good at switching gears, but I have to say that parenthood has made me even better at the process. When my daughter was little, I worked in my writing time during her naps, and instead of immersing myself in words for hours on end, I learned quickly how to focus in quick bursts of time. In fact, even when I have my long, uninterrupted stretches that used to make up my writing time, I find that I now work better in sprints with lots of distractions in between.

One thing that has always been vital to me is movement; I love yoga, and whenever I need a break to clear my head, I’ll stand up and move through a few quick yoga postures. I started running last year, too, so that plus my evening walks with my family has become hugely important to my creative process; I get some of my best ideas when I’m in motion! Some people brainstorm in the shower, but for me, it’s all about walking (or jogging) meditation. You’d be surprised how many plot snarls I’ve untangled when I step away from the computer and lace up my sneakers.

At the end of the day, regardless of how much I’ve got going on, there’s no better way for me to recharge than to lose myself in words…either my own, or whatever awesome book is currently sitting on my coffee table, waiting to be read. Right now, I’m actually between writing projects, but I’m gearing up to start editing a NA Paranormal in the next few weeks. In the meantime, I’ve been catching up on my TBR pile and enjoying the lull. Between all the hats I wear and the way my mind works, I’m never quiet for long, and I’ve learned to enjoy these rare moments of calm whenever they land in my lap. Even so, I’m just about ready to dive back into my usual chaos. ;)
