Book Blitz + Giveaway - Deviations by Anma Natsu

Deviations by Anma Natsu
Publication date: February 14th 2016
Genres: Romance, Young Adult

“We’re just deviants, that’s all. You, me, Taka. We’re deliciously, wonderfully deviant.”

Scarred

Seventeen-year-old Miho has spent years struggling to deal with the aftermath of a tragic accident. Between the nightmares, PTSD, depression, and her parents’ abandonment, the burden of being the sole survivor has her near her breaking point. The darkness whispers to her, promises of release from the pain, from being a burden, if she is willing to give up.

Battered

While the girls love classmate Shinji’s blond hair and blue eyes, to his father it’s all the proof he needs that his wife was unfaithful. Unwanted and unloved, Shinji is used to his mother’s hatred, his brother’s indifference, and his father’s violence. Male or female, he doesn’t care; his regular string of sexual partners helps him temporarily forget that he will soon have to leave the only person he loves, if he can survive that long.

Controlled

As the first-born son, Shinji’s best friend Taka has known from birth that his future was not his own. He’ll go to the right schools, get the right grades, take over the family business, and produce a perfect heir with a perfect wife, just as his father dictates. Taka’s wants and desires are irrelevant; he can’t change his fate nor escape it, any more than he can protect the only person who keeps him sane.

Attracted

Drawn to one another like moths to a flame, the three find themselves torn between what society deems acceptable and a happiness they never dreamed existed.

EXCERPT:

It’s funny how I never noticed till now. Miho, I mean. I’d talked to her a few times in the library, though only to exchange the usual greetings and perform book transactions. But we hadn’t really talked, not until Taka approached her. Then watching her, I realized she was like me. Her eyes had that same deadness to them. Did her preference for long clothes make it easier to cover bruises, like I had to? Was she always alone because it was easier—easier to hide the shame and the pain if you had no one around?

Now that I’d acknowledged it, I was hyperaware of it, looking for more clues. When she checked me out at the library, I thought I spotted a white scar on her wrist. I wanted to ask her, ask her about all of it, but that would have been crass. You never talk about that sort of thing in public, and not with strangers. We were still strangers, after all, even if we had the darkness in common.

After leaving the library, I’d taken the books to our hideout before heading back into town. I never took the books I got home out of fear something might happen to them. It was one thing when they were my own books, but letting my dad destroy other people’s property, much less community property, would be pretty crappy. So I kept them safe where only Taka and I could find them.

I was heading home when I spotted her walking across the river from me. I don’t think she saw me before that pack of girls surrounded her. It was clear they’d been lying in wait. I leaned on the rail and watched them with an odd sense of pride in Miho for not crying. She was used to it, like I was. People like us, we learn how to endure. Crying, appearing weak, it only gets them going worse, feeding on whatever it is inside them that makes them have to hurt others.

Miho only broke when they stole the scarf we’d picked out for her. That bothered me a little. Though I knew it was better not to interfere, I moved towards the bridge to cross to the other side.

I was halfway across when the scarf hit the river and Miho was left there to watch it float away. Only she didn’t. She dived into the water without hesitation. I ran, scared she would drown. All those heavy clothes could easily pull her under, but when I reached the bank I realized she was swimming. Her arms breached the water at her side before slicing back into the water above her head like a professional. The only difference was her legs stuck straight out behind her instead of kicking. Smart girl.

Then she was back at the bank and lying on top of me, both of us panting even though she’d done all the work. Her body was thin, but soft and warm. Her chest was small, a B cup at best, but more likely an A. Still, they felt nice. She felt nice.

Excerpt:

I trace the trigger housing on my gun and count the remaining clones congregated around the room. Were grossly outnumbered. And Owen is weaponless. This cant end well if we dont comply.
“You have thirty seconds to accept my terms,” Lyong says, a nettled edge to his voice.
I shiver, picturing his one-eyed tic appraising me in a monitor somewhere as he talks, his papery skin rippling with the effort of speech. I cant see a way out of the situation that gives me any chance of saving Owen, other than to negotiate. Hesitantly, I raise my arms and step forward.
“My brothers injured,” I yell. “If you give us your word youll help him, well turn over our weapons.”
My heart strains in my chest. Im counting on Mason and Sven to hold their fire. I wait for what seems like forever, steeling myself for Lyongs response.
The intercom crackles to life, but Lyongs words are drowned out in a barrage of gunfire. I pitch sideways beneath a conveyer belt and huddle in a ball, shaking. Debris pelts me from every angle; chunks of seat cushions, shredded medical tubing, shards of glass from exploding computer screens. A pungent chemical smell fills the air.
All over the room, disoriented Schutz Clones fly backward. I stare in disbelief as they writhe in death throes, ossifying before my eyes. Mason bolts across the floor and rolls under the belt beside me. His eyes gleam like cats eyes in the dim light. “Its the Council,” he yells, between breaths. “Theyve penetrated the Craniopolis!”
I blink as I digest what hes saying, my ears roaring.
Mason slams a fresh cartridge into his gun, his knuckles bleeding profusely. “They must have triggered the explosion. Theyve been planning an attack for months.”
My brain slowly wraps itself around the information. Theres still a chance of getting out of here alive. I unload my pack and roll over into sniper position. “Then lets finish this.” I lock eyes with Mason. “For Owen.”

Release Date: March 1st 2016
Genre: Young Adult, Fantasy, Magic, Fiction, Paranormal

Synopsis:

Nym and Draewulf prepare to face off in a battle destined to destroy more lives than it saves.

With the loss of Tulla still fresh in mind, Rasha’s fate unknown, and Lord Myles taken over by the dark ability, Nym and the few Bron soldiers rush to warn Cashlin’s queen. Only to discover it may already be too late for the monarch and her eerie kingdom. As the Luminescents are sifting through Nym’s past memories and the queen is reading into her future, Nym is given a choice of how to defeat Draewulf, but the cost may be more than she can bear. And even then there are no guarantees.

With that reality burrowing into her bones—along with the guilt of the lives she will sacrifice—Nym returns to her homeland of Faelen to raise an army of peasants through promises of freedom. But when the few friends she has left, along with the world and citizens she loves, are staring down the face of a monster and his undead army, will Nym summon every element her blood is capable of controlling . . . or surrender to a different strength—one of sacrifice?

Because in the end, death may be more merciful for them all.

When did you start writing?

*laughs* I think I’ve always been writing fiction in some form or other. I just hadn’t really noticed until around 7 years ago when I began crafting stories – and promptly fell in love with it. :)

What makes you want to write?

Oh…music. People. Life. Grief. Kindness. The brokenness I see in our world and the beauty in the souls of each other. Warm coffee on rainy days…

Who is your favourite character in Siren's Song?

Kel. Hands down. His innocence and belief in the midst of horror is an ode to the very best in each of us. I love his heart.

Do you have any works in progress?

I do! The beginning of June 2017 the first in my futuristic duology is releasing. It’s about a Native American girl who must rescue her brother from an ice planet which appeared in Earth’s solar system some years previously. Think Ember in the Ashes meets Ender’s Game. ;0)

What are your hobbies?

Hahaha! Okay so I actually really enjoy eating. I also love to cook and host parties under the white lights out back, or spend quiet evenings with my family, or hang out with the teens I work with, and play at the beach.

What is your favourite film?

Hmm…probably Lord of The Rings and Joss Whedon’s Much Ado About Nothing (it’s seriously a brilliant piece of artistry).

What is your favourite TV show?

Currently I’m enjoying catching up on The Walking Dead with my husband!! Which basically means I’m sitting there eating cereal while he’s peeking at the tv from beneath the covers. Ahem. ;0)

They live in California, which is perfect for stalking L.A. bands, Joss Whedon, and the ocean.
