Review - Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke (Prisoner of Night and Fog, #2) by Anne Blankman
Title: Conspiracy of Blood and Smoke (Prisoner of Night
and Fog, #2)
Author: Anne Blankman
Pages: 384
Publisher: Headline
Release date: 5th November 2015
Blurb from Goodreads:
The
follow-up to Anne Blankman's fantastic PRISONER OF NIGHT AND FOG, a powerful,
fast-paced thriller set in the shadowy and dangerous world of Nazi Germany.
The girl known as Gretchen Whitestone has a secret: she used to be part of Adolf Hitler's inner circle. More than a year ago, she made an enemy of her old family friend and fled Munich to live in Oxford, posing as an ordinary German immigrant. Her love, Daniel Cohen, is a reporter in town, and Gretchen is content. Then a telegram sends Daniel back to Germany, and her world turns upside-down when she learns that Daniel is wanted for murder. To save him, she must return to her homeland and somehow avoid capture and recognition by her former friends, the Nazi elite. And as she and Daniel work to clear his name, they discover a deadly conspiracy stretching from the slums of Berlin to the Reichstag itself. Can they dig up the explosive truth and escape in time - or will Hitler discover them first?

My Review:
*I
received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thanks to

2/5 stars
Gretchen
and Daniel are now safe in England having escaped from Uncle Dolf and Germany.
Gretchen
loves her life living with the Whitestones and studying but then bad news in a
telegram draws Daniel back to Germany. After learning that Daniel is wanted for
murder, Gretchen returns to her homeland intent on clearing her boyfriend's
name.
Gretchen
and Daniel soon get drawn into a deadly conspiracy.
Will
they clear Daniel's name?
Will
Gretchen be recognised and taken to Hitler?
Conspiracy
of Blood and Smoke was an action-packed sequel full of twists and turns but
despite this, like the first book, I found it very hard to stay interested; the
writing style didn't suck me in and I often found myself skim reading.
I liked
Gretchen and Daniel and felt sorry for them but I didn't feel that I really
connected with either of them.
My
favourite thing about the series is that it's a blend of fact and fiction.
I
thought that the plot was very believable.
Overall
this was an okay read but it didn't hold my attention.
