Review - The DUFF by Kody Keplinger

Title: The DUFF (Hamilton High, #1)
Author: Kody Keplinger
Pages: 300
Publisher: Hachette Children's Books
Release date: 5th April 2012

Blurb from Goodreads:

Beauty really does lie in the eye of the beholder...

Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is smart, cynical, loyal - and well aware that she's not the hot one in her group of friends. But when high-school jock and all round moron Wesley Rush tells her she's a DUFF - a Designated, Ugly Fat Friend - Bianca does not the see funny side. She may not be a beauty but she'd never stoop so low as to go anywhere near the likes of Wesley ... Or would she? Bianca is about to find out that attraction defies looks and that sometimes your sworn enemies can become your best friends ... With a wry and tell-it-like-it-is voice, The Duff is a witty and poignant story of a teenager struggling with the rules of high school attraction, along with the breaking down of her relationships with family and friends. It is a novel about what it means to be sexy, in a world where we feel we have to be perfect!

My Review:

*I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Thanks to Hachette Children's Books and NetGalley*

-Contains spoilers and a mini rant-

 1/5 stars

Bianca Piper has two beautiful best friends so when Wesley Rush, a hot guy who is known for sleeping around, tells her that she is the DUFF - Designated, Ugly Fat Friend - she isn't surprised.
Bianca's life is stressful with her parents' marriage on the rocks and the guy that broke her heart coming back to town so she finds a way to relieve that stress - Wesley.

So The DUFF was not at all what I expected.
It started off well and I was finding it quite funny but then IT happened - Bianca used Wesley for sex. Then did it again and again.
I really hate how many YA books make sex seem like it's not a big deal. IT IS. If I had a teenage daughter there is no way I would want her reading something like this. There are other ways to relieve stress.
She's seventeen!
Just no. This is not okay.
